Why is the fish a symbol for the Christian faith?

·         Jesus fed the 5,000 with 2 fishes and 5 loaves
·         Jesus called his disciples "fishers of men."
·         It is believed that when a Christian met a stranger in the road, the Christian sometimes drew one arc of the simple fish outline in the dirt. If the stranger drew the other arc, both believers knew they were in good company.
·         The fish symbol is also similar in shape to the first letter of the Greek alphabet, Alpha... God as creator... in the beginning... belonging to the creator...desire for Him to be first...followers of “The First”
·         Shape is similar to a cross
·         Baptism:  Fish swim in deep water yet do not drown; indeed, they need to be immersed in water in order to survive
·         Many fish survived the flood – Believers are the survivors – they “Live”
·         Fish is food, meat, sustenance, life, nourishment – We have been fed and are alive!
